Being the longest gorge in all of Europe (16 km), the gorge of Samaria is a natural wonder adored by hikers. The Samaria gorge has been created by a long river running between the White Mountains and Mount Volakias, a sight worth treasuring. The park surrounding the gorge has been declared as a natural park as it is home of the rare Cretan wild goat kri-kri and other endemic species of flora and fauna.
